This was shot around the holidays in small-town Texas. Dorothy Channing recommended a place that is full of country flavor, Louie Mueller Barbecue. If you have never experienced Texas barbecue, I highly recommend you put it on your bucket list. But always, always ask locals where to go. There are plenty of lackluster places in this big state as well. I don't know if it was the slow-cooked meats, the authentic setting, or Ms. Channing, but I now find myself rethinking city life.

As my home roasts under the Texas heat, I am comfortably lying in bed in another part of the world. There is a cool breeze entering the open windows. It makes me realize how important and yet counter-productive a singular perspective can be. What one person knows or thinks they know is often not enough. We need unrestricted communication from a variety of sources to help us see through bias. In other words, the sanctions don't do shit, as far as I can tell. And if your news is only reporting that your side is winning, then it is probably lying to you. Like Norm MacDonald wisely pointed out, isn't it odd how history always has the good guys winning? I met a wonderful young couple in Barcelona, Madeline Escobar and her boyfriend, Sergio. I speak some Spanish and they speak some English, so we were able to get by. It is particularly odd trying to explain what tacos or nachos are to Spanish speakers. Madeline had never tried Mexican food before, yet was curious when we found a local restaurant serving it. Overall, she is a sweet person with strong opinions and a passion for expressive art. You would never guess that she has a destructive gambling problem. I'm probably kidding about that.

Alevtina Batman is one of the women that I show to potential models before a shoot. Her willingness to interact with the camera is exemplary and instinctual. I love reading. I actually enjoy anything that pulls my eyes away from one of these screens.
